Swaddling
When you first see your baby in the hospital nursery, she will probably look like a well-wrapped package. Her body will be swaddled in a receiving blanket that keeps her arms close to her body and her legs securely bound. During the first few weeks, your baby can spend much of her time wrapped in a receiving blanket. Not only does this keep her warm, but the slight pressure also seems to give most newborns a sense of security and comfort.

Here’s how to swaddle your baby

1. Spread the blanket out flat.
2. Lay your baby face up on the blanket with her head at a corner.
3. Wrap the bottom corner over her body, and hold it over her belly.
4. Bring one of the side corners onto her belly up over her feet.
5. Wrap the other side corner around her.

That’s it! Your baby is now securely swaddled.
